Yes and no. A 3D TV will be able to create a 3D image from a 2D image. The Playstation 3 is doing the exact same thing with their current 2D games. But to get the full 3D effect, you need 3D content that was filmed and broadcast specifically for 3D.
In time probably every channel will be available in 3D just like most stations are available in HD now. Right now though there are limited 3D channels. You can watch 3D movies with the help of a 3D player or you can play 3D games on a Playstation 3.
So, it all depends on what you want from your 3D TV. Some people will be excited to be one of the first to own a 3D TV and will be amazed by the content regardless whether it was made for 3D or not. Other people are going to want to wait until more 3D content is available.
