There’s some good news and some bad news for those of you who are waiting for a 3D TV that doesn’t require glasses.  Toshiba is releasing three sizes of 3D TV’s that fit the bill, a 12 inch, a 20 inch, and a massive 56 inch.  The bad news is that they only plan to release the TV’s in Japan at this time.  There is no release date for the United States or anywhere outside of Japan.  While this doesn’t mean that it won’t happen, there is no plan for it currently.

The good news is that the technology is not only available, it is advanced enough to be released to the public.  3D TV without glasses is far from ideal yet.  There is a narrow viewing angle to get the 3D effect.  Likewise you must sit closer to the tv than you might normally.  Nevertheless, the technology is out there and will only improve with time.  Some of you will remember that flat screen tv’s had the same problem in early days.  If you tried to watch from anything other than almost straight on, you had what looked like a faded screen.  By the time that this is released outside of Japan it will likely be a second generation model that has improved the viewing angle and made it better for all.
